Archiving Policy
1. Introduction
The Center for Management Science Research (CMSR) is committed to promoting rigorous and impactful research in the field of management science. This policy outlines the procedures for archiving research outputs generated by CMSR-affiliated researchers, including faculty, students, and visiting scholars.
2. Objectives
This policy aims to achieve the following objectives:
- Preserve research outputs: Ensure long-term access to research data, materials, and publications for future reference and reuse.
- Enhance transparency and reproducibility: Facilitate research verification and replication by making data and materials readily available.
- Promote data sharing and collaboration: Encourage open access to research outputs and support collaborative research efforts.
- Comply with institutional and funding agency requirements: Meet the archiving mandates of the host institution and external funding agencies.
3. Scope
This policy applies to all research outputs generated by CMSR affiliates, including:
- Peer-reviewed publications: Journal articles, conference proceedings, book chapters, etc.
- Research data: Quantitative and qualitative data, codebooks, survey instruments, interview transcripts, etc.
- Research materials: Software, models, presentations, teaching materials, etc.
- Theses and dissertations: Graduate student research conducted under the supervision of CMSR faculty.
4. Archiving Procedures
CMSR researchers are responsible for archiving their research outputs in accordance with this policy. The following procedures should be followed:
- Data management plan: Create a data management plan (DMP) that outlines the procedures for data collection, storage, security, sharing, and archiving. The DMP should be submitted to the relevant funding agency and stored along with the research data.
- Data repository selection: Choose a reputable data repository that meets the specific requirements of the research data, such as data format compatibility, long-term accessibility, and embargo options. Some recommended repositories include:
- Open Science Framework (OSF)
- Dryad Digital Repository
- Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR)
- Dataverse Network
- Metadata creation: Create comprehensive metadata that describes the research data, including study design, variables, instruments, and codebooks.
- Depositing data: Upload the research data and metadata to the chosen repository and assign a persistent identifier (e.g., DOI) for long-term access and citation.
- Publication archiving: Submit peer-reviewed publications to institutional and public repositories like OSF or the institutional repository.
- Material archiving: Archive research materials, such as software, models, and presentations, in a designated institutional repository or a public platform like GitHub.
- Theses and dissertations: Ensure that theses and dissertations are archived according to the institutional regulations and made available through the institutional repository.
